Emily Cremona - Part 4 Circus

Hi Darlings!

I hope you all had a lovely holiday. This is my final Emily Cremona collaboration post of the year. Take a look at this sexy little number. It's actually from her menwear collection, but we styled it up with a belt, heels, and some "circus tights" as my photographer called them, so I think it's pretty cute.

Thanks Deena for the pieces and inspiration, I can't wait for more!

Emily Cremona - Part 3 Golden Girl

Hello Darlings,

It's nearly time for Christmas and I am so excited to be back in England with my delightfully nutty Mum, known to most as "Sal" aka "Big Sal" aka "Sallaaaaaay".  More to come on that in some later posts. For now though, here is another gorgeous Emily Cremona design. Check out her beautiful corset belt with wings. Oh and credit to the wonderful Eve Beglarian for the sneaks - they were one of her christmas presents to me! Lucky girl I am xoxo

Emily Cremona Part 2 - Gothic Wedding

Hello Darlings!

This week I have teamed up again with the fabulous Deena Wassef of Emily Cremona - the NYC/Beirut based fashion house.  In this post I am wearing her beautiful bridal coat. Over the next few posts we will see a few more of her designs styled in the Ruthie-Darling way, so keep an eye out for that.

I am dedicating this post to my dear, dear, friend Gemma Glynn who is marrying her sweetheart next year in England! Congrats Gem and Jonny (aka Cookie The Bookie) - I can't wait to see you both soon.

xoxo Ruthie Darling

A little footnote: Whenever I wear this coat I think of that fabulous line from the film 'Mrs Doubtfire'........"I was going kind of a refugee motif. You know, “fleeing my homeland” kind of thing. But look at you! This lovely Dances With Wolves motif. What’s your Indian name, SHOPS WITH A FIST?" Here is the offensive cardigan Sally Field wears to prompt the comment

Purple Rain

Hello Darlings!

Well, I am finally back from our residency at the wonderful Hermitage Artist Retreat (thanks Bruce and The Hermitagettes!) The musical workshop was a great success and there will be photos and videos coming soon. I'll post them here and over at our blog www.evbvd.com/descent. Back from sunny Florida it seemed high time to dig out the tights. Purple tights, naturally. Please enjoy this week's look and I'd also like to say a big thank you to my wonderful photographer Mr Denton Taylor, check out his website to see more of his work.

Advanced Fashion Part #2

Hello Darlings!

Here is part two of my series showcasing experienced stylistas. This week we meet the fashion-forward Sharon Burde who mixes New York and Florida fashions effortlessly and has created a personal style that I adore.

Here she is:

Sharon Burde

Sharon Darling, what are you wearing here?

John Fluevog shoes, Omo (Norma Kamali) leggings, Annette Gortz tunic, Kay Chapman jacket, “lifesaver" eye frames by Morgenthal Frederics, NYC

Can you describe for us your personal style?

I use a limited palette - black, red, white, occasionally royal blue.  Primarily, mostly black with red highlights in winter; red and black in summer, silver or white gold jewelry or craft jewelry and accessories. Simple A-lines always look great. "Color Me Beautiful" changed my life. Women of a certain age will understand.

Where do you like to shop?

I shop first in my own closet.  I never discard anything I love. I try to discard things I don’t...In Sarasota I shop at Dream Weavers. In NYC, at Ann Ahn, Madison Ave and at craft fairs, vintage shops, outdoor markets and little shops in every city.

Do you have any fashion rules?

Black with a bit of red works for me. I don’t even consider other colors…most of the time. Anyway I break rules, not make them!

What is your favourite thing about getting older?

I don’t care if my clothes are vintage…so am I.

What is your favourite city for fashion?

The one I’m in at the time…and NYC

Sunglasses: Mazza Marcotti

What are your tips for dressing stylishly, yet age appropriately?

Know what feels and looks good. Don’t overdecorate. Less is more. Wear red on gray days, consider weather and mood. Also a talented hair stylist is essential.  Dylonn Cole is my guy in Sarasota.

Sharon I want everything that you're wearing and at least a day playing dress-up in your wardrobe! Thank you so much for being a Darling. You are my new style guru!

Advanced Fashion Part #1

Hello Darlings!

This week we have two very special blog posts featuring some "experienced stylistas" from Florida. Let me give you a little context here.....

This November I find myself in Sarasota Fl, workshopping a new musical and staying at the idyllic Hermitage Artist Retreat. As a lot of people retire to this beautiful spot, I have been noticing some seriously divine "advanced fashionistas".  I decided that I had to feature some of them on Ruthie Darling and find out about how style and fashion develop as one matures. These ladies could teach me a thing or two!

Allow me to introduce to you our first advanced fashionista:

Lisa Rubinstein

Lisa Darling, thank you so much for being a part of the blog. Tell us what you are wearing here:

Two of my favorites, a painted silk vest created by Kate Beck of New Orleans and a Chan Luu cuff. Each year Kate comes to Sarasota for a contemporary craft show and I've bought something from her four times and love every unique piece. Saw the bracelet in Henri Bendel and next thing I knew it was a holiday gift. Sexy shoes by BCBG bought at Nordstom's Rack.
Can you describe your personal style?

I try to dress in a classic style but not too conservative. I like to include a little surprise to make me feel good. I come from and live in an artistic world so I like to be a little creative with what I'm wearing.

Where do you like to shop?

Anywhere!

Do you have fashion rules?

Not really. I like to be open to new possibilities. Makes life and fashion more fun.

What is your favourite thing about getting older?

Perspective and a stronger sense of self.

Favourite city for fashion?

New York City: great people watching and wonderful stores. What more do you need?

What are your tips for dressing age appropriately yet stylishly?

Wear what you feel good in. Everyone has their own sense of what's stylish for them.

Will you be having a stylish thanksgiving?

Very stylish! (She's spending it with me - duh) We are thankful to be sharing Thanksgiving with creative artists and friends. Expecting the food to be as fashionable as those eating it. Very, very stylish!

Thank you darling Lisa for sharing your gorgeous self with us.

Sexy, fabulous and stylish.

.......

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in

my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
